Nowy Sącz is a town in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southern Poland. It is the district capital of Nowy Sącz County.

The town Nowy Sacz has many historic features, including: (From Wikipedia)

One of the largest marketplaces in Europe, after Kraków, the largest rynek in Poland. The late 19th century Ratusz (city hall) is centered in the square.

Saint Margaret's basilica, Bazylika kolegiacka Św. Małgorzaty (15th century).

A 15th-century house Dom Gotycki containing a regional museum.

A gothic Franciscan church.

The Great Synagogue, dating from 1746, now the Galeria Dawna Synagoga, a gallery with some historical displays.

Saint Roch, a church of wooden construction from the 15th century, in the Dąbrówka district. The old cemetery chapel St. Helen's Church is another example.

The partially restored ruins of a mediæval Royal Castle from the 14th century during the reign of Kazimierz the Great.

The mountainous country around Nowy Sącz is also popular with tourists, hikers and skiers, especially the Beskid Sądecki mountains (part of the Carpathians), of which the highest peak is Radziejowa (1,262 m (4,140.42 ft) above sea level).

Looks like very nice town in Poland. I would like to visit one day.

Last Great Race on Earth : Mail carried on Dog Sled : Iditarod 40th Anniversary Cover : USA Cover

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome. Mushers and a team of 12–16 dogs, of which at least 6 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 9–15 days. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams but evolved into today's highly competitive race.

Teams frequently race through blizzards causing whiteout conditions, sub-zero temperatures and gale-force winds which can cause the wind chill to reach −100 °F (−73 °C). A ceremonial start occurs in the city of Anchorage and is followed by the official restart in Willow, a city in the south central region of the state. The restart was originally in Wasilla, but because of too little snow, the restart was permanently moved to Willow in 2008. The trail runs from Willow up the Rainy Pass of the Alaska Range into the sparsely populated interior, and then along the shore of the Bering Sea, finally reaching Nome in western Alaska.

The trail is through a harsh landscape of tundra and spruce forests, over hills and mountain passes, and across rivers. While the start in Anchorage is in the middle of a large urban center, most of the route passes through widely separated towns and villages, and small Athabaskan and Inupiat settlements. The Iditarod is regarded as a symbolic link to the early history of the state and is connected to many traditions commemorating the legacy of dog mushing. (Read more at Wikipedia.)

Thanks Dad for sending me this nice cover with special cancellation. Readers, My dad is Gandhi Stamp collector and his  blog is http://gandhistampsclub.blogspot.com

Godina Zmaja & Nova Godina stamps on cover from Croatia.

Cover from Croatia.

CDS : Lukač : Is a village and municipality in Croatia in the Virovitica–Podravina County.

Stamps On Cover:

1) Nova Godina 2012:  "Dance of falling snowflakes" The image of a snowflake as a little star is in fact the matter of faith. Only a small number of children have seen under microscope that tiny, white cluster that is caught on the tongue and that quickly melts on palm. The crystal soul of a snowflake is visible in hoar frost, and the firmness of its structure is surmised in ice.

2) Godina Zmaja : " Year of the Dragon-2012. ". The motive of these stamps was a man wrapped with two dragons, and the author is a modern master of traditional Chinese painting, Fan Zeng.

Thanks Josip Mikolcic.

I hope you received my cover. Let me know.

Dog sled stamp - Cover from Canada

Cover from Canada with special cancellation from Eureka, Nunavut, Canada's Most Northern Post Office.

Eureka is a small research base on Fosheim Peninsula, Ellesmere Island, Qikiqtaaluk Region, in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. It is located on the north side of Slidre Fiord, which enters Eureka Sound farther west. It is the second-northernmost permanent research community in the world. The only one farther north is Alert, which is also on Ellesmere Island. Eureka has the lowest average annual temperature and least precipitation of any weather station in Canada.

Thanks Jeff.  I will send you one cover.( http://stamp-stuff.blogspot.com/)

Given Canada’s sometimes daunting landscapes and often extreme weather, delivering the mail has, at times, required a little ingenuity. This se-tenant stamp issue, issued in time for the 2011 Royal Philatelic Show, depicts two of the more unusual methods of mail delivery.
In the winter of 1910, a snapped telegraphic cable severed communications between the people the Magdalen Islands north of Cape Breton and the mainland. Faced with isolation, the leaders of the community rigged a ponchon—a large barrel used for transporting molasses—with a rudder and sail, marked with the inscription “WINTER MAGDELEN MAIL.”
After testing to ensure their jerry-rigged vessel was watertight, they piled in steel boxes filled with letters, including one explaining the situation and imploring the finder to mail the letters. Launched on February 2nd, the ponchon was found at Port Hastings, Nova Scotia, more than a week later, by Murdoch McIssac—who forwarded the letters as requested.
Prior to the air mail advances of World War I, the only reliable method of mail delivery in northern Canada in winter was by dog team, a practice that persisted in more remote regions until the early 1960s. Dog breeds and sledding equipment varied, depending on the terrain, climate and era. Today, every January, the Gold Rush Trail Dog Sled Mail Run allows mailers to have envelopes carried by dog team and delivered via Canada Post. The artwork for this stamp was unveiled earlier at this year’s edition, held January 21-23, 2011. (From Canada Post website : http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/collecting/stamps/2011/2011_methods_of_mail_delivery.jsf)
